As the new year grows closer, so does World Oral Health Day! Organized by the FDI World Dental Federation, the day is celebrated on March 20th of every year, accompanied by year-long campaigns fitting into a certain theme. We’re letting you know about this initiative ahead of time so that you can plan to promote it or be a part of it. The purpose of World Oral Health Day is to unite people and dental communities across the world to act against oral diseases and reduce the burden they place on people, economies, and health systems
The campaigns and celebrations involve schools, youth groups, oral health professionals, healthcare professionals, and public institutions to help empower individuals with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to address the issue. World Oral Health Day is celebrated in 209 countries and is highly popular on social media, reaching users 4 billion times with tens of thousands of images posted.
For the years 2021-2023, the theme is “Be Proud of Your Mouth.” With this theme, the FDI World Dental Federation is hoping to inspire people to value and take care of their oral health. For 2023, celebrations, event proceedings, and assets will focus on the importance of caring for oral health at every stage of life.
As a dental practitioner, there are a few ways that you can get involved in the campaign to varying degrees. The FDI World Dental Federation makes many resources available on their website for use by dental practices, including fact sheets, various social media assets, customizable posters, and key message cards, each available in multiple different languages. You can make use of these assets to promote the messages of the campaign to your clientele and social media following. Furthermore, you can organize an event to celebrate World Oral Health Day on your own account.
