Starting a
Dental Blog

by Amanda Krueger

Starting a blog for your dental practice is as good an idea as ever. When looking at the current business landscape, you’ll likely find that many companies with a substantial online presence operate a blog in some form. Dental practices are no exception! Blogs provide a ton of utility to dental practices, including better performance on search engine rankings, more website traffic, strengthened credibility, and increased resourcefulness for current and potential clients. Starting a dental blog is easier said than done, though. It’s a technical process that involves a lot of sustained effort. Ali Jhaver, CEO of Adit Dental Software, wrote an excellent guide with tips on how to start a dental blog. Here are a few takeaways that we thought you’d find most useful:

  1. Formatting goes hand-in-hand with strategy
In order to properly improve your search engine rankings with a blog, you will need to format them correctly on your website. There are a few general best practices to pay attention to. For example, you want to keep your titles short (under 10 words), utilize meta descriptions, and make sure that the permalink you create for an article is easy to read and remember. These are examples of straightforward, easy-to-implement styling best practices that significantly help your search engine optimization. There are similar principles that apply to your written content. Examples include building attention-grabbing headlines, establishing clear main points with supporting information, and including a call-to-action. Once you have a process down for these, you won’t forget it!
  2. Consistency is key
If you want to draw the most possible benefit out of your blog, you will need to post your content frequently and at a fixed rate. Building a schedule around posting 2-3 times a month will not only help you learn the process of writing search engine optimized and engaging content, but also improve your authority and performance with search engines and earn you higher rankings.
  3. Write to provide
Keep in mind that the content you write drastically affects your optimization level as well. Google’s EAT (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) principles should be at the top of your mind when producing web content. You should write your content with the intent of providing reputable information to the reader in an engaging manner as your top priority. In turn, you will be more likely to be rewarded for your efforts in writing a blog with higher rankings. Don’t just treat this as a way to stuff keywords and climb a leaderboard! Jamming as many keywords as you can into a blog post just for the sake of it will not earn you better performance.

Starting a blog is an excellent way to flesh out your web content as a dental practice. It allows you to provide more value and utility to your current and potential clients, all while naturally improving visibility on search engines like Google and allowing more people to find you. Just make sure you’re brushed up on best practices for formatting, writing, and strategy to get the most out of it!
